An artist friend bought a loft space in the old warehouse district, planning to use the brick and concrete aesthetic, but the previous tenant had textured all the drywall walls with some awful 1980s pattern that looked like cottage cheese. She wanted smooth walls for hanging her paintings, but scraping off all that texture would have been a nightmare.
